Davis Appointed Pubnet Director Pubnet announces the appointment of David Davis as Director of the Pubnet Services Group effective January 1, 2003 David, a seven-year veteran of Management Information Systems Group, Inc. (MISG) and most recently its Director of Sales, Strategic Channels, has extensive experience in e-commerce and EDI services. Prior to MISG, he worked for Triad Systems Corp., a point-of-sale provider in the automotive industry. In January 2000, David began managing Pubnet at MISG on a three-year contract. He recalls some difficult times during the first year and a half, as Pubnet was migrated from a legacy system to an internet-based system (Pubnet 2000). Through the hard work of a dedicated support and sales team, David managed a quick turnaround and ample benefits from the new system. "I'm glad to see more retailers and publishers are joining and using the system," says David. "Working with Bowker's management team, I fully intend to create more opportunities and added value to the system in the future. We're now in the process of pilot testing the capability to sell other general merchandise items via Pubnet, such as music, college memorabilia, school supplies, greeting cards, and so on." David received a B.S. degree in Business with a concentration in Marketing from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. "I've enjoyed working with everyone in the publishing industry, and I'm very excited to join the Bowker team," he says. |

Pubnet Offers Clear, Competitive Pricing Pubnet has revamped and simplified much of its fee structure over the last three years. Retailers pay a one-time joining fee of $75 and publishers, $750. No more annual fees for anyone. For retailers, Pubnet transactions are free - there is no charge for sending and receiving documents. For publishers, Pubnet charges only 75¢ per document end-to-end, regardless of size, plus a $50 per month mailbox fee. Also, these publishers offer additional discounts for ordering via Pubnet:
Last but not least, Pubnet offers a great way to create visibility for titles: Publishers can submit their catalog data direct to Pubnet's database (832) at no charge, making title information easily available to over 3,500 retailers. For more pricing information, contact David Davis at 919-949-9154, or david.davis@bowker.com. |

University of Chicago Press' Don Collins Touts Pubnet Transaction Sets Don Collins, CFO at the University of Chicago Press, a Pubnet user for eight years, says his organization is often among the first to use new transaction sets. The University of Chicago Press started using electronic invoicing as soon as it was available. Among their first customers to adapt systems to accept electronic invoicing were Barnes & Noble College, Ingram, Borders, amazon.com, and Baker & Taylor. "Booksellers of this size often have their own invoicing systems, many involving manual entry," Don explains. "Invoice data was often incorrectly entered or inadvertently overlooked due to human error. But when the invoice data is downloaded via the 810 Electronic Invoice transaction set, all the information is captured and verified, quickly and accurately." Currently, the University of Chicago Press is working with Advance Ship Notice (856), an electronic packing list which provides an item-by-item listing of the contents of each carton in a shipment. "Ingram and Barnes & Noble are up and running with Advance Ship Notice, and we're in the process of setting it up with amazon.com," says Don. "Pubnet users can submit orders 24/7," he added. "We pick up orders twice a day and promise a three-day turnaround. 60% of our growth comes to us through Pubnet." Says Rich Vettel at Unitech EDI, "Users have already made the investment to sign on Pubnet, so utilizing the other transaction sets available will help them get the most benefit from the service." Pubnet users interested in expanding their use of transaction sets can contact Rich at 617-846-9790, e-mail rvettel@unitechedi.com. |
