Pubnet LLC and MISG Announce New Pricing
Models
June 25, 2001 Research
Triangle Park, N.C., June 25, 2001 - The Management Information Systems Group,
Inc. (MISG) and Pubnet LLC announce the elimination of annual membership and
title database submission fees and a reduction of initiation fees for
Pubnet®, a leading electronic commerce system for the publishing industry.
MISG, which manages and markets the Pubnet system, implemented the new pricing
models effective June 1.
"We have worked diligently to improve the efficiencies of
the Pubnet system," said Alan Jones, managing director of MISG. "With this in
mind, and to align Pubnet's pricing model along industry practices, we have
made significant changes. This positions the system for growth in the
publishing industry and provides even more value to publishers and
retailers."
Publishers previously paid annual fees, based on company
sales, to remain an active supplier. Now the only costs to use the Pubnet
system are the per-document transaction fees and a monthly mailbox fee.
Initiation fees also were previously based on sales but have been reduced to a
low, one-time charge.
Annual fees also were required previously for publishers to
submit updates to the Pubnet Ordering Wizard (POW) Title Database, which
contains more than 750,000 titles. The fees also have been eliminated.
Bookstores and distributors can utilize the POW system to search for titles and
place orders over the Pubnet Web site (www.pubnet.org). An increased number of
publishers participating and number of titles in the database will provide
additional value to retailers ordering through POW.
"The pricing reductions will bring new publishers on board,
which will benefit bookstores and other retailers," said David Davis, MISG's
publishing industry manager. "We know that many companies love the reliability
and simplicity of using Pubnet, but we also recognize the increased value they
will realize with the new structure."
Pubnet is a leading publishing industry E-commerce exchange,
allowing more than 3,000 distributors, bookstores and other retailers to place
electronic orders and receive return documents over the Internet. More than 300
publishers receive orders over Internet file transfers or through the
browser-based application at www.pubnet.org. Web users have access to the
system's 500,000-plus title database to conduct title searches and place online
orders.
The Management Information Systems Group, Inc. is a leading
supplier of electronic commerce and EDI solutions, managed network systems and
Internet services to the publishing industry. MISG's Internet services include
Web site development and hosting, Web-to-EDI-to-Web integration,
E-commerce-enabled Web sites, Internet-based EDI and trading community
management.
